Face Shading With Makeup

Without Makeup Shading VS With Makeup Shading

As more and more features get added to Stardoll, members express their creativity in a variety of ways. One of these popular ways is shading the face of your MeDoll to make it look more realistic and less cartoon-like. Although some features in the Beauty Parlor offer a little bit of shading itself, it's still not enough to make your MeDoll look realistic and not like a 2D cartoon.

One of these ways is by using Stardesign Hair to create masks that shades the face. Although this way you can create and shade your face however you like, using that method is tricky and expensive.

So this is how you do it with Makeup. You will need to invest in a shadestick from Transform that is also a colour that is a shade or two darker than your skin tone.

The only 'skin tone' shadestick I have is called Charcoal, which is too dark for my skin tone, so I will have to use adarker skin tone for this tutorial in order for it to look like a real shadow.

First let's start off with a basic blank face. I darkened the skin tone to match the shadestick colour I was using.
Using the shadestick, follow the natural curve of the nose. Bring it up to the beginning of your eyebrows to help outline the eye socket as well. Also, make the shadowing a bit thicker around the nostrils. It also helps to have your MeDoll zoomed out a bit so you can see what it would look like far away, in your suite. Up close it is more pixelated and hard to tell what is going on.
Now, your face dips from your nose into your eye sockets. Shade in from the top of your nostrils to around the inside of your MeDoll's eyes to shade in the eyesocket area.
Now, shade in some of the little details. Shade in the little dip under your nose, under the lip, and along the sides of your jaw for contour.

Now, it's time to shade the cheeks. Use a blush about the same colour as the shadestick you used, and shade under the cheekbones. Once you do enough layers of that so it is as dark as you like, you can start on highlighting the cheek bones. I used a white blush, then went over it with a light brown blush to subdue the brightness of the white against the skin.
Now, add whatever hairstyle you would like your MeDoll to have. After you selected your hairstyle, line around the part that is on your face to cast a shadow that hair does in real life.

Lastly, you can add whatever makeup you want your MeDoll to wear! (:
I hope that helped and/or inspired some of you guys! This was is a lot cheaper, and instead of spending a lot of Stardollars to buy or make a new mask, you can change up the shading and makeup for free!
